1948 Buick Streamliner

1948 Buick Streamliner by Norman E. Timbs 1 150x150 1948 Buick StreamlinerIt’s almost unbelievable but this beautiful looking car was created in the late 1940s by  Norman E. Timbs, mechanical engineer. He designed the project all by himself and it took him more than 2 years and $ 10.000 to complete this ultimate hot rod.  Emil Diedt created the body for $8,000 using  aluminum   alone.

The car is powered by a 1948 Buick V8 with a maximum speed of 120 mph.

Buick did not introduce a V8 until 1953. Prior to that time all their cars were powered by an in-line 8. Some of those cars were equipped with twin downdraft carburetors. The pictures here depict that engine. The engine is clearly not a V8.

  38. Edwin Says:

According to an article, written by Richard Owen, the engine was a Buick inline 8, rated at 200hp.
