UK Car Insurance – 70% of UK Drivers Never Check their Oil

compare UK Car Insurance – 70% of UK Drivers Never Check their OilIn a recent online survey undertaken by Swinton car insurance, it was revealed that an astonishing 70% of UK drivers never check the oil levels in their car.

With over 1,300 drivers questioned, over two-thirds admitted that they never check their oil levels, potentially leading to engine damage and even worse – requiring a whole new engine.

The role of oil in a motor engine is to lubricate the engine and ensure that the system remains cool and free from rust. It is worth bearing in mind that older vehicles use oil quicker as older engines get worn and that engine damage is not covered for repair by UK car insurance policies.

Women appear to be the worst offenders when it comes to checking their engine oil levels, with 83% of female drivers surveyed admitting to failing to check as opposed to 52% of male drivers.

Steve Chelton, Insurer Development Manager for Swinton car insurance (http://www.compareinsurers.com/Car-Insurance/Car-Insuran …), said: “We’d advise all motorists to have a thorough understanding of car maintenance and be able to carry out simple procedures such as checking oil and topping up with water. The older a car gets the faster it consumes oil, so we’d advise people to check their oil level at least every two weeks and carry a spare canister in the car at all times.”
